Transfigured. Altered. In a flash, the blink of an eye, I saw a new world: Undiscovered continents. Navigable rivers. Jungle canopies and sky rise towers in concrete deserts. Sunburst daylight and cool blues by moonlight. Where am I and where are you?
Stretch out wide, grasp the stars. What was once, no more. What is to be, waiting patiently. What never was, a waking dream, reminding me of choices, regrets and failures. Love and love lost. Vows and promises kept.
Transfigured. I’m left to dream reality while living in visions. Lightning strikes, bang of thunder, the voice of angels, the cries of time.
Intertwined, our lives but a wrinkle in time. Born. We interact, We die. We touch each other, on our hearts, in our souls. We affect one another. We make ourselves essential to one another. We war and bleed for one another. We find peace and joy with, and because of, one another. We leave marks on each other, demarcations.
Transfigured. Different. Oh, not the boy pretending to be a man during the school daze. Not the man, foolish like a boy on the open ocean. Grown. Evolved, but 41 years of flowing water has not eroded the foundation. Recognizable to those with eyes that see, ears that hear.
A death bell rung. A soul from the past, your past, gone. Each death leaves us a little bit more alone. An echo across the wide valley. Death reminds you what you have and what you lost. Death comes for all. Our lives, mile markers on the highway. The rear view mirror, the last exit.
Love the ones you love today. The highway stretches out with no end in sight, and the only thing for certain is the road will imprint on us, leave us, transfigured.
