Bread. four simple ingredients: Yeast, Salt, Flour and Water. 14,000 years ago man made bread. A 2,000 year old loaf was preserved in Pompeii, teaching us what true Roman bread was like. Why do I make bread?
UNBLEACHED ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMIN MONONITRATE, RIBOFLAVIN, FOLIC ACID), WATER, SUGAR, YEAST, CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING: CALCIUM CARBONATE, WHEAT GLUTEN, SOYBEAN OIL, SALT, DOUGH CONDITIONERS (CONTAINS ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING: SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, CALCIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, MONOGLYCERIDES, MONO-AND DIGLYCERIDES, DISTILLED MONOGLYCERIDES, CALCIUM PEROXIDE, CALCIUM IODATE, DATEM, ETHOXYLATED MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, ENZYMES, ASCORBIC ACID), VINEGAR, MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE, CITRIC ACID, CHOLECALCIFEROL (VITAMIN D3), SOY LECITHIN, CALCIUM PROPIONATE (TO RETARD SPOILAGE).
That’s what is in Wonder Bread, admittedly a low bar, but you get the point. We all have a choice. To embrace a lead role in your health is to embrace the food we eat. I like bread (don’t tell my accountability trainer). If I’m going to eat bread, it’s going to have four ingredients.
It’s not really about the bread. Life means living. Living means loving. ‘Find joy in your toils’ to paraphrase James. Comfort is the slow death. Taking the time to bake your own bread, while less convenient, is akin to the now overused parable of making your bed each morning to train your mind to get things done. Making my own bread, showing up for workouts when you lack motivation, turning in a solid performance when you’re not at your best. This is all done to avoid the slow death, comfort.
Enjoy the bread. For you myfitness pal folks like me: 8 slices per loaf, each slice: 230 Calories 1% fat (.7g), 17% Carb (48g), 14% Protein (7g).
I go heavy protein all day and save myself for two slices.
Enjoy!
